Sunday 15th March 2020 - Coronavirus (COVID 19) Update

12 March 2020 (by bowkervale)

I am writing again to provide re-assurance to parents and carers about the impact of the coronavirus on the school.

The school continues to receive and follow daily advice and guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health England, on how to respond to the emerging issues in relation to the coronavirus.

Public Health England and the office of the Chief Medical Officer are clear in their advice that at the moment, our school will not close in response to anyone in self-isolation for symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19).

However, the advice and guidance to schools is updated regularly to respond to the changing situation and, as a school, we will respond to that advice.

The specific national guidance issued in respect of schools is available online at – https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19

The Department for Education has also set up a Coronavirus helpline that parents and carers can contact to answer COVID-19 questions related to education. The helpline number is 0800 046 8687 and is available from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The latest advice that all of our school community must follow is –

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home. You must report to school and you or your child must remain at home for the full 7 days, even if you or they are feeling better.

Please recognise that someone who is self-isolating is following government advice and this does not necessarily mean that they are a carrier of COVID 19.

I promise to keep you informed of changes as they arise. Please do not speculate via social media with each other, as this just creates confusion and worry.

Thank you

Mrs R Jacques
