Remembrance Day

As part of a Heritage Project, Year 6 have been learning about the history of our local area. They have found out that Blackley Forest was planted in 1953 to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and to commemorate the end of World War II. Children from the school at this time helped to plant the trees!

As part of the project it was decided to create a memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives in the war. On November 11th 2013 we attended a Remembrance Day ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by World War II veterans, local councillors and serving Marines. Some children read poems they had written with the theme of remembering the dead, which was followed by a 2 minutes silence. The school has donated a bench as a lasting memorial.
