Nursery Environment

Dance

All children have Dance session on a Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child is wearing shoes that they can take off and put on by themselves.

Snack time

The government supplies a fresh piece of fruit or vegetable and milk for each child in Nursery. As we are a Healthy School we  teach the children the importance of healthy eating.

The staff encourage children to drink water regularly throughout the school day, therefore can you please ensure that your child bring a named water bottle to school to enable them to have a drink whenever they need to. However, please ensure that the bottles are filled with water only, no juice, squash or fizzy drinks. We ask the children to take their water bottle home each night for a wash and a refill for the next day.

Changes of clothes:

Occasionally your child may have an 'accident' that may result in them needing to be changed. We will do anything we can to ensure this is not a stressful experience, and will help them to change their clothes as soon as we are aware. However, it is easier for us and more comfortable for them if they have a spare set of clothes in school. We would be grateful if you label your child's clothes and keep them in their own bag on their peg.

 'Look what I can do!'

To find out as much as we can about your child we encourage Parents/Carers to fill out ‘WOW’ slips. These slips are a real opportunity to share what your child has achieved outside school and for us to work together in partnership. These observations can be ‘WOW’ moments where your child has done something you are pleased with or something that you feel they have done for the first time, independently. This could be anything from helping to tidy up, read a book to their siblings, dress by themselves etc. These observations will displayed upon the ‘WOW’ wall and will contribute towards your child's EYFS profiles. Please come and look! If you would like to write an observation just speak to a member of staff.

Outside area

The children have free flow access to the outside area and go out in all weathers. Therefore, we ask Parents/Carers to make sure during the winter season, their child bring their coats, hats, gloves, scarves and wellies. During the summer season, please make sure they wear appropriate clothing and footwear and sun cream if necessary.

Morning signing in

We encourage the children to recognise and find their own name cards, as they enter the nursery class in the mornings. We ask you, as parents and carers to support your child to find their name.

During the Spring term, the children will have their name cards with a space for writing underneath. This is so that as well as recognising their names they will 'mark make' on a daily basis. When your child has found his/her name they then write their name on their card. We DO NOT expect your child to write their name perfectly but want to encourage them to make marks to represent their name. Please do not guide your children’s hand or rub their name out for them to do again. It does not matter if it does not look like their name. We want to build your child’s confidence to experiment with writing by making marks with the pen. We ask parents to support and praise their child by using encouraging words such as “that’s good writing,” or “you are writing your name, well done.”

Assembly

Every Friday we have a Foundation Stage assembly where we celebrate the children’s achievements and birthdays.

In Nursery, we have a ‘Spotty Box’. If we witness your child doing something good (i.e. following the Nursery rules, being kind to others etc.) we will give them a Spotty certificate, which they will put in the Spotty Box. During the assembly, we randomly pick a certificate from the Spotty Box and this child receives a special prize!

We also have 3 ‘Stars of the Week’ - one child from each Key Group will each receive a special certificate for their achievement that week.
