Science is led by Miss Clark, Mr Dean and Mrs Hamid-Butt at Bowker Vale.
At Bowker Vale our aim in Science is that children are given opportunities to observe, record and draw conclusions about the world around them. Science fosters a healthy curiosity in children about our universe and promotes respect for the living and non living. Through science teaching, children are given opportunities to:
Develop their knowledge and understanding of important scientific ideas, processes and skills and relate these to everyday experiences.
Acquire a curious and questioning mind.
Develop skills of observation and investigation.
Collect, retrieve, present and communicate their findings to others in a variety of ways.
Teachers are responsible for the teaching of Science. It is taught in units through a combination of whole class teaching, group and individual work. The units are based on the National Curriculum.
During the Foundation Stage children begin to explore the world around them, with specific science work covered through the Early Learning Goal ‘The Natural World’.
Throughout our science teaching we hope that our children will develop a sense or awe and wonder about the world around them.
Our Bowker Vale science principles are:
I am curious! Questions, observing, making links
I investigate! Use enquiry types, plan, do, review
I know more and remember more! Knowledge, vocabulary, flash back 3
