Specialist Resourced Provision for SEMH at

Bowker Vale Primary School

Outreach Offer

Bowker Vale Primary School is a mainstream school which was approached by the Local Authority in 2012 to become a specialist provision for children with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) for SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties).

The provision known as Bowker Vale Specialist Support Centre (SSC) caters for up to 8 children with Education, Health and Care Plans, offering specialist provision for SEMH. The children will have full access to the National Curriculum with an emphasis on developing social and life skills, and addressing emotional and mental health difficulties.

Pupils have access to mainstream resources, such as the large outdoor play areas and may join their mainstream peer group for outdoor learning through our Forest School offer. All of their curriculum learning usually takes place in the SSC children’s own classroom.

As we consolidate the excellent practice of our SSC, from April 2020 and for one year, the Local Authority are able to support our capacity to offer funded outreach to our local schools in the North of the city, meaning there will be no cost to you for up to 3 days SEMH support.

If you have a child, children or a group that meets our criteria (see below) and would like to request some support please complete and return the ‘Outreach Request Form’ (also below) and return to –

Support will be individually tailored to your school. It will always begin with a meeting here at BV with you (and a senior leader from your school if you’d like) and our lead SEMH teacher (who is also a Specialist Leader of Education for behaviour), to identify the problem and outline what support may look like and what you hope the outcomes to be.

The offer to schools within this project is up to 3 days support. Please can I emphasise that your school’s rationale for accessing support must be to show commitment to the child maintaining their mainstream place and that the child must not have already had support from other provisions.

We look forward to working with you.
