The Specialist Support Centre is the North primary provision for children with Education and Health Care plans for social, emotional and mental health difficulties. We provide specialised teaching for up to six children in a purpose built building. Places are allocated by the Local Authority with admissions normally occuring in September.
Staffing in the provision is one teacher, one HLTA and three teaching assistants. Children are taught reading, maths and English in the morning either in small groups or individually. In the afternoons children work on developing their skills in other areas of the curriculum such as PE, design and technology and computing. Throughout the school day, the children are supported in developing their social and emotional skills and are taught self regulation strategies to develop their own emotional responses to situations as they arise.
Our work is supported by access to a qualified play therapist one day a week and half termly support from our Educational Psychologist. They support the work of the SSC team in developing and delivering interventions for both our academic and social and emotional curriculum.
